Youth Meeting 2017 by CISV Belgium
seen through the eyes of a (kitchen) staffie
Only one week during the Easter holidays! An intense week! An incredible moment to bring out the best of everyone and to enjoy from it!
You know... we did it.
Arbrefontaine of all places, in the middle of nowhere.
All different children, age 12-13, coming from Portugal, England, Germany and Belgium. Great leaders, some with a lot, some with less experience. A full Belgian staff with an average age well above average, some with a lot, some with less experience, but oh so complementary. Everyone was totally committed.
'YES WE MUST' was our camp theme, in this year of 'Human Rights' (international yearly theme).
From flag time, over breakfast, cleaning time, activity 1 and 2, lunch, free time, activity 3, snack, activity 4, shower time, delegation time, dinner, activity 5, lullabies, flag time and sleeping time to end the day. We saw children speaking together, laughing together, playing together, walking together, running together, jumping together, fooling together, singing together, eating new things together. We also saw them thinking, debating, discussing, reflecting towards their own world. Everyone was involved, everyone had an opinion, everyone was good in something: running, arts and crafts, riddles, strategies, cleaning dishes (especially when you can earn an extra dessert with it!)

Who could imagine, 6 years ago, when I learned to know CISV by being a host family, I should do this? These days I enjoy spending a lot of time with children in this amazing organization. YES WE MUST! Today's children are wort it!
Berba,
PS: I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot, together we can do great things.
